Bus Stop Attire and Finished Pillows

If you see a mom in the grocery store shopping with sunglasses on, don't judge.  She has had one of those days.  All she had the energy for when she left the house was to slap on her shades.  How awesome is she for thinking of you and sparring you from the no make-up face, be kind and offer to help load her groceries!

All moms, need a cute hat and cute pair of sunglasses, instant rockstar!   Throw on a cute pair of jeans and you could go anywhere!

Also, don't judge the mom that is wearing two different shoes to the bus stop. Yes, for the last two weeks this has been me.

I know, I really need to paint my toenails, but it's winter and I shouldn't be wearing sandals anyway!

My reasoning.  We have shoe baskets by the front door and on occasion I have the kids clean them out for me.  See how full and disorganized they look right now, drives me crazy!

They are supposed to take a few pairs each and line them up neatly in the closets they belong in.   Instead of leaving me one matching pair of slip on shoes, they left me one of each.   We rush out the door each morning, so there is no time to go all the way to my bedroom and find the mate.  It's all about going with the flow and embracing what life throws at you.

I am also doing my job and teaching the kids that it doesn't matter what is on the outside, it's what's on the inside that counts!! Really, that is the reason!

I procrastinate when it comes to sewing.  I have great intentions, but sewing projects intimidate me a tad, so I push them to the back of my priority list.

I have been wanting some damask throw pillows for my couch since last April.  Trying to be good and save some money, I used my Joann's 40% off coupon and purchased the fabric.  I would make them myself!

The fabric sat in my closet for two months, untouched.  But, in the back of my mind I was thinking, oh, my mom is coming to visit in June. Perfect. She can help me.  She is a pro.  She would make them look store bought as opposed to my great efforts that would fall very short!  People will look at hers and say, "I love your pillows, so cute!"  People would look at mine and say,"Oh, new pillows, they match your living room," while they gave me the polite head nod.

As always, our time together flew by and we never got around to it.  To much to do, in such a short amount of time!   The sweet mom that she is, said she would take the material and sew them and mail them back to me.  I know, she's the greatest!    So, she whipped them up in a flash and had them to me within a few weeks.   Now, all I had to do, was stuff the pillow forms into the beautifully sewn pillow cases, and hand stitch a two inch gap.  How long do you think that took me?   Five months!  Yes, for five months my living room looked like this

How irritating is that?  One finished pillow.  We have two couches that sit facing each other, so having only one of these pillows really looked odd.  Almost like, "oh, did they only have one of those left, in the clearance section, at TJ Maxx? Interesting decorating decision.  I like the teaser of the one different pillow in the room, I like how it makes me yearn for more.  It really draws me in."

My mom took one of the pillow forms with her, for measuring purposes and sent that one back, completed.  So there it sat, all alone, for five whole months!  Pathetic!

I have some big news!  I finished them!!!!! This last weekend I couldn't take it anymore. I sat down for the 30 minutes it took me and finished the job.  Just don't look to closely at the stitch job!

I love them, I so wish I had done this a long time ago.  So now, both couches look like this

Life is so much better when things are in balance!  Thank you mom, your the best!

My motivation, besides the fact that it bugged me everyday for five months, is that this week my painting came for the living room.  I ordered a custom painting and it matches my pillows, so I had to finish them.  I will tell you all about this beautiful painting, hopefully next week!!  Thankfully, my wonderful husband did not procrastinate and hung it up for me right away!

  1. I am SO glad you got those pillows done, I was about to come over and finish those myself!! Totally kidding! But it does look great, and I can't wait to see your picture that'll match. Oh, and I love that you are admitting to your unmatching does. :)
